Nope Dale... I didn't say a word until just now when I read this. He has never used tomato cages before. On the farm they just grew 'wherever'. Now he knows (I didn't know either..never used them growing up).
BTW...Doreen is right. I'm not sure we could have gotten them into the ground unless we put them in at the time of planting. Clay is horrible when it gets wet and dries. Like rock.

Thats when you put the cages in when you first plant the tomatoes.

Thanks Deb. It keeps him outside for an hour or so each day! Walked out there last night with my camera. Some things are flowering. I would guess we'll have beans about two weeks from now. Beans are blossoming! Squash is flowering, but it will be awhile before they're ready.

Your garden is looking wonderful Linda. I think everyone is short on water these days. I may get to have a garden next year. Hurrah!!!

Thanks Donna. Hubby works hard keeping it watered. No rain yet...and I can't wait for our water bill to arrive. You should try a small garden. My sister puts one in every year.

Looks good Linda. I'll eat the green beans but you can have the squash, I never did like that stuff. LOL

We have beans (not just blossoms). OMG...I hope they don't all come on at once.
Also have potaotes, squash growing (not just blossoms), and the tomato plants are now on 6 ft. stakes. ROFL....
The corn is topped out and we seen one ear starting.
One cucumber that we found starting out, and blossoms on cantelope and watermelon.
And there's only two of us... ;D

My dad used to say corn was supposed to be knee high by the 4th of July. The tomato stakes in the center are 6 ft. stakes. The corn is definitely higher than the stakes. We have about 7 ears started. This morning we picked a half-bag of green beans (plastic grocery bag), and equally as many potatoes.

Looks good Linda. The saying "Knee high by the 4th" was only true for in the northern states because of the cooler weather, but thats not even true any more. I don't know what farmers are doing now a days but a lot of times they have corn for sell by the 4th.

Thanks Dave. We've been having a good laugh over the size of it this year.
The climate is so different here. We're ahead of the north by a good month. A friend of mine was laughing this morning. Sent her a pic of the corn and she was in hysterics. She said theirs was only 'ankle high'. John said it's loaded with ears.
We'll see how it does this year. Last year we only had about a dozen small ears.

They are selling local corn here now. I didn't plant it this year. Too much work last year, and they sell it 5 or 8 for $1, I can't buy the water for that. The last few ears I ate were delicious. I like the white corn, peaches and cream. I think I'll have corn for lunch now.

Corn used to be a treat but now its available almost all year round and its the SuperSweet Sugar-enhanced variety so its very good and keeps for up to 2 weeks.. For the past few years I've been planting SuperSweet corn..Usually around the middle of May.. Takes about 65 to 75 days to maturity and its supposed to be isolated 300 yards from other corn.. if it pollenizes with another variety it ruins the other variety.. small unfilled cobs etc. So maybe thats why the neighbours corn is so crappy.. ;D I plant 3 ... 25 foot rows and I thin the plants to about a foot apart. If you don't thin corn...you don't get corn..even though it hurts me to pull them out of the ground..
