TEXAS SHEET CAKE
Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease and flour a 10 x 15 x 1-inch pan.
CAKE INGREDIENTS ¼ cup cocoa 1 cup margarine 1 cup water 2 cups sugar 2 cups flour 2 beaten eggs ½ cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon vanilla
In a medium saucepan, bring cocoa, margarine and water to a boil, stirring constantly, over medium heat.
In a large bowl, stir together the sugar and flour. Pour the cocoa mixture over and blend well. Add the eggs, buttermilk, baking soda and vanilla. Spread evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes.
Prepare the frosting.
When the cake is done, immediately pour the frosting over it and spread evenly.
Makes 20 servings.
FROSTING INGREDIENTS: In a medium saucepan bring to a boil: 1/2 cup margarine 1/4 cup cocoa 6 tablespoons milk
Stir in: 1 pound powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Pour over the cake immediately is so that it will be soaked up by the cake. Do not let the cake cool off completely.
Nuts can be optional if you don't like them, but it's better with them.

I'll have to try the buttermilk. My recipe calls for sour cream instead of buttermilk.

I made it because my kids were going to be here. However, they really didn't eat much of it. I ended up cutting it in squares and freezing it. Freezes well. Nice to grab just one slice/square when you want it. lol
Let me know if you make it Penny.

Deb, I've never made it with sour cream. I also don't buy buttermilk. I take a 1/2 c. of milk and add 2 Tbsp. White vinegar to the milk and let it stand for 15 min. before using.

if you add the vinegar to the milk, it's a substitute for the buttermilk.
