My desktop computer has gone crazy. It was working fine, and I was in the other room talking on the phone when I heard the computer letting me know updates had been installed. I hear that a lot so checked later to see if the machine had restarted and it was in the process of restarting, but then this screen came up, then a screen asking if I wanted to start in safe mode or two or three other options. I tried normal mode, but it kept restarting and ending up at the same page, then I tried last configuration it worked in {or something on that order}, the same thing happened, I tried in safe mode, still the same thing. Does anyone have any idea why it would do this? I haven't even been on the computer much today, only to check email and once to search for something. I haven't installed anything new either. I don't know why it started doing this, but I can't get on line or even to my home page. I tried unplugging it and leaving it for awhile, but still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you! I think this might be it, because it happened after an update. I didn't install anything though, it was an automatic update, but it's constantly rebooting like the article says. I'm going to call the number tomorrow and see what they say. Hope it takes care of it.

Wanted to thank you once again. I called this morning and it took a while, but I'm back up and running! I wrote down everything they told me to do just on the off chance it ever happens again, maybe I will be able to fix it myself. ;D

What did happen Nancy? Was it an update and if so what update was it. Maybe you should post what they told you to do in case someone else has the same problem.

I'm not sure what update it was Deb, it was one of the automatic updates. I heard it say your computer has been updated, and that was the last I could use it. I wrote down each step they told me to do, at least I hope I got it all right. Here is what I had written down, so print it out just in case you need it. I saved it to my computer, but also printed out a copy since it wouldn't do me much good on my computer if I couldn't get to it. LOL! Hope this helps if someone else has the problem. How to reinstall windows from CdTurn on computer. Put your computer's reinstallation cd in drive. Turn computer back off, then start again, immediately hit F12 two or three times. When next screen starts select cd rom drive and hit it five or six times, press enter. When you see welcome screen hit R {for repair} new boot Type fix boot, hit Y and then enterWhen you see boot section was successfully written type chkdsk /R then press enter {be sure you leave a space between chkdsk and the /R} It will take 45 minutes to an hour {maybe more, just keep checking back} While repairing it will go to 80% then down to 30% or lower 3 times, not to worry it’s suppose to do that. When you see 100% c:\ {I just saw the c:\} Hit Exit then enter if it doesn’t restart, select start windows normally, then hit enter.

I'm wondering if this update affects only Vista or Windows 7? The update I had the other day was for the one mentioned in Tim's post, per the link, comment below:
"and in this case Microsoft says those system changes caused major problems after the MS10-015 kernel patch, shipped during the last Patch Tuesday, was installed."
The update installed on my computer and I have had no problems. I have XP though.
