If you have ant hills sprinkle them heavily with corn meal rather than buying special insecticides. They take the meal back to the nest and eat it, but they can't digest it so they die.
Plus, they don't move on to another spot in your yard. Works!!! Cheaper too.

That's a great idea, we don't have too much of a problem but we do get them.

Corn meal - is that like...ground down maize, a bit like flour? Pardon my ignorance!! It sounds like a great remedy - almost everyone gets ants at one time or another. Thanks for the tip, Linda!

Aah - just googled it, and discovered it's what we call polenta here!

I found a bunch of ants in my mail box yesterday. I have one of those big boxes on a pole like they have the the carrier drives up to only mine walks up to mine. It was full of ants. Today they were gone, guess the rain washed them out because I left the door to the box open overnight.

I have a plant that wasn't doing very good this year, then I discovered it has an ant hill underneath it,going to get some corn meal this week-end and see if I can get rid of them. Thanks for the tip!

My butterfly bush had a big one underneath it Barb. I put cornmeal all over it, and the hill is dead now. I need to rake it out, but I did check it...no ants.

we used to have an ant problem every spring. our kitchen would be bombarded with the big black ants. kt would by diaznan and put around the perimeter of the house. wish i would have known about the corn meal then instead of buying chemicals. thanks linda!!

We had anthills all over out front and around our sunflowers, I used the corn meal and they are all gone, the first time in years! It's much safer if you have animals too, our cats like to hang out underneath the sunflowers and now the ants aren't bothering them. ;D

Woo Hoo JoAnne...glad it worked for you as well. Much safer for the kitties! Our cat is so nosy that I felt better using it too.
Barb (NN) did you try it yet?
