According to Worldstart.com XP SP3 is Coming!
Have you heard the good news?! Talk about this has been spreading like wildfire all over the Internet, so I'm sure most of you already know, but just in case you don't, allow me to fill you in. Microsoft finally made the announcement that the Windows XP Service Pack 3 will make its debut on April 29, 2008 (that's only a few days away!) XP users have been waiting on this for a very long time, so it's wonderful to finally have an exact release date. Keep reading for all the details you'll need to know to get the XP SP3 for yourself!
On April 29 (next Tuesday), you will be able to download the SP3 through either the Windows Updates or on Microsoft's Web site. For now, the update is not required, but Microsoft will be including it with the Windows Updates for June, which will be released on June 10, 2008. So, if you don't download it now, you will be required to get it later. But, just so we're clear, the SP3 is something that will benefit all XP users, so there's not really any reason why you shouldn't download it as soon as you can.
The XP SP3 improves on security and it bumps up the network related capabilities. That may not seem like anything real major, but they are important updates. Also, just so you know, the SP3 will work on Windows XP Home Edition, Professional Edition, Tablet PC Edition and the Media Center Edition. It's also required that you at least have the SP1 installed on your computer before you download the SP3. Other than that, just be patient for a few more days and then the SP3 will be all yours. How exciting is that?!

Not me yet. I'm waiting for awhile and see if there's any bugs to be worked out.

I read that whole thread. Did she ever say if it came through on automatic updates? No one else has gotten it that way that I know of. I don't want it for now.
When they are talking about Back UP are they talking about the whole computer? I'm so dumb when it comes to all this stuff. I do back up my pictures and favorites on discs which I really need to get on memory sticks but how do I back up all of it?

If you have your restore disks, that should have come with your computer, then you really only need to back up your data files...anything that you have put on that computer since you originally started it up. The restore disks would be able to restore it to the same condition in which you took it out of the box. Any updates that you've installed since then, you'd have to download and install all over again. Any photos, documents, emails, music, and the sort, you'd want to back up. Memory sticks really isn't the best way to go with that kind of a back up. If you have a CD (or better yet, DVD) burner, that's a good way to go. There are also a number of websites where you can store copies of those files, even free, just in case of such an emergency, but I wouldn't use them as your ONLY backup. You never know when one of those companies might be sold, go broke, or just disappear.

Thanks Doc.
I just got this on WS newsletter today.
XP SP3: Still On Hold
Several of you have been asking me about this and after doing a lot of research, I think I've finally figured out what's going on. As you all know, in a prior issue of the newsletter, I told you the Windows XP SP3 would be released to the public on April 29, 2008. Well, that day has come and gone and there's still no sign of the SP3. So, what's the deal? Did Microsoft goof up again or is there more to it than that? Well, as much as I hate all of the delays Microsoft puts us through, I have to say they did the right thing on this one. Here's the scoop!
The XP SP3 was all ready to go, but then Microsoft found a "compatibility issue" between the Service Pack and an application called Microsoft Dynamics RMS, which is a retail chain management program for both small and mid-sized businesses. As soon as they found the glitch, they started a filtering process, but until that's finished, they will not be able to release the new SP3. As of right now, there is no official release date, because Microsoft doesn't know how long the filtering will take. They are just promising it will be released ASAP.
Now, some of you may have found copies of the XP SP3 on various Web sites, but it's recommended you do not download it until the final version becomes available. A version of the SP3 was leaked to the Internet, but it's not a safe download, so I urge you to be patient and wait for the real thing. I know you all were anxiously waiting for the SP3 to be released, but you have to remember that Microsoft is just keeping our best interests in mind. They want the final version to be perfect and that's what it will be. As always, I'll continue to keep you posted on any new updates, so keep checking back for the latest news!

GG- There's a Free GiveAway today, at www.giveawayoftheday.com/multiset-56/, that will allow you to make back-up disks for your operating system, and is a LOT simpler to install, should the need ever arise. You can download it at this link, but you must install the program today, for it to be free. You can then use it whenever you want, to make the disks.

This is from a WS news letter.
XP SP3 Support
I'm sure every single one of you know about the Windows XP Service Pack 3 update, right? We here at WorldStart have gotten a lot of phone calls and e-mails about the release in the last week or so. Your comments range from how smoothly the install went to how the Service Pack completely crashed your computer and so on.
Now, I don't want to scare you with horror stories of XP SP3 failed installs, but it's important to realize that problems do occur. Microsoft tries very hard to make sure the install of any update or Service Pack goes smoothly for all computers, but with Windows installed on millions of computers worldwide, it becomes a difficult challenge. So, the question is: “What do you do if your Windows XP SP3 install fails?”
First of all, don't panic! The worst thing you can do in a situation like that is to just start clicking away, trying to fix a problem you don't know very much about. If you do that, you could cause even more damage to your system, which will make it harder to repair.
If you come across a problem, there is help available! Microsoft doesn't advertise it, but they do offer free chat, e-mail and phone support for issues such as this. That's right, you can call Microsoft directly if you have any trouble with your XP SP3 install.
Here's the telephone number you can use to contact Microsoft for free XP SP3 support: 866-234-6020.

From what I've been hearing on several forums, that's liable to be a VERY busy line!

XPSP3 is being blocked by MS due to HP'S AMD chip failure. HP has identified the failure, apologized but has NOT announced any updates as of today. these continuous reboots seem to have affected any machine with the AMD [ see HP ] chip installed. till the problem is resolved,NS will continue blocking this service pack through it's update center

Just wondering if everyone has SP 3 yet and if they are still having problems with it. I haven't let it come through yet on my auto up dates.
