JoAnne, what is snipe?
I think I know, but not sure.
If it is what I think I heard it called slamming.
I have a mark against me, because I left a negative remark, and of course, I got a negative in return. I won't do that again. I just won't say anything.

Glad to heard we're saving you money JoAnne. LOL ;D I've sold a little bit on e-bay too. I haven't for awhile now but wanna get back into it. As a seller I try to be as honest and as quick to respond to buyers as I can. I once sold an item and before I received payment from the buyer Debbie told me I had the item listed wrong. I contacted the buyer right away and told them about it. She was very happy I did that and still bought the item, in fact she bought two. I don't have a lot of ratings but what I have is at 100% and all the comments I have say how good a seller I was and how quick I shipped their item. I intend on keeping it that way even if I have to take a loss just to keep a customer happy. Thanks Dave! ;D Communication is all important! And usually everything turns out just fine. We haven't sold anything for quite awhile but would like to again soon. Another thing that I think is very important is to keep your shipping honest. It drives me nuts to see very high shipping prices. People try to make sure they get what they want for it by charging outrageous shipping charges. Doreen, sniping is when you bid in the last 5-10 seconds, my fastest one I had 4 seconds left, that was freaky! Sorry about your negative, did you post a reply to the neg. they left you? It might be too late depending on how long ago it was. I think as a seller, as soon as you recieve payment you should leave feedback as their end of the transaction is done. I think the feedback process is very important, it keeps peoplr honest.

I've done my share of buying and selling on eBay. I've got 100% feedback, so I must be doing something right. If I buy something, I generally pay for it right away, unless I've already contacted the seller and they're adjusting the price on shipping or something if I get more than one item from them at the same time.
As a seller, I pretty much pack and weigh the item first so I know how much the postage will really be, then charge that, and just a little extra (under a dollar) to help cover the supplies that I don't get for free, such as the packing tape. I also try to ship anything I sell the day after I get the payment. I've been known to ship the same day as well though.

There is a program Ebay Snipe. I've seen it and if you don't have the time to watch it, set up your bids and items in the program and it will do it for you.
My friend does it all the time, she calls it slamming. I forgot about the Ebay Snipe program, when you mentioned it earlier. It works fine as long as your highest big remains higher than what is bid.

I also try to ship anything I sell the day after I get the payment. I've been known to ship the same day as well though. I'm like you Chris, I pay immediately unless waiting for a combined shipping adjustment. We are lucky that where I work I can get all kinds of boxes in different sizes but we almost always ship priority so the boxes are free anyway but only come in certain sizes so we have sometimes made our own to cut down on weight and besides, the boxes I can get at work are sturdier than the ones you can get at the post office. We set our auctions to end on Sunday evening. They did a study a few years ago that stated that Sunday was the most popular day to end an auction. We try to balance between all time zones. We ship on the next business day after receiving payment and have also shipped same day if they pay before 2:30 pm, everthing goes out at 3:30 at the post office. We also do the same as you as far as packing up and taking it to the post office to be weighed and get a quote for both coasts and adjust accordingly. There have been times where we paid more than we charged but only a dollar or two. We by no means do this to get rich, it's just fun to do. If the auction is ending at a decent time for me I like to snipe myself because it is fun and exciting. I figure out what the max is that I want to bid and then I always add a dollar more, I have won a lot of auctions because of that extra dollar! I've never heard of a program called eBay snipe but there are probably a lot of programs that will do it for you. The only program that I've ever used is called AuctionStealer. It's free for 3 bids a week and it resets itself on Sunday. They do ask for a donation but you don't have to, I've donated several times using PayPal. You can also buy their several bundles but unless you plan on using it alot, their free program is just fine but it is nice to donate. Here's the link, it's very easy to use. I use it if I'm not going to be home or it's the middle of the night etc.. auctionstealer.com/home.cfm Happy sniping! It's more fun doing it myself though. I use the second hand on the clock and get it down to the exact second by refreshing every minute. eBay has added a new feature that you can refresh just the time and any bid made instead of refreshing the whole listing which is great if you're on dial up. Here is a description of sniping from eBay: Last-minute biddingPlacing a high bid in the closing seconds of an auction-style listing is called “sniping” within the eBay Community. Sniping is part of the eBay experience, and all bids placed before a listing ends are valid - even if they're placed one second before the listing ends. To help avoid disappointment, ensure that the maximum bid you enter on the item page is the highest price that you're willing to pay. The eBay bidding system automatically increases your bid up to the maximum price you specify, so entering a higher maximum may help prevent you from being outbid in the closing seconds of a listing.

My son and his girlfriend wait till the last possible minute to bid. They are fast. I get them to do my bidding. They also will from time to time set their bids if they can't be home to do their bidding. They set them high and hope they don't get out bid. They really don't like doing that because someone bidding against them could pinpoint their bid and out bid them.

The AuctionStealer link in the post I did last night will place your bid in the last 10-20 seconds of the auction if you use the free option.

We tried ebay as my mom left me so much stuff. Like over 2,000 cookie jars and as many little trinket boxes put we didn't have any luck they bid it in the last few seconds like you are talking about and we lost because there was no way to put the value on the items. So we soon stopped that and got out of Dodge.
