First of all, nobody laugh!
I´m looking for a small 8 trackplayer, that I can hook up to my modular component system. I don't care much what it looks like, just that it has decent pickups, so it sounds decent.
Okay, NOW you can laugh!

I've got an old portable one Doc that plugs in or takes batterys. It still looks and plays like new but I don't know if you could hook it into your system unless the head phone jack would work. I got it out a couple yrs. ago and tryed playing some of the old 8-track tapes we have but the tapes are so old they were breaking or coming loose from the wheel inside.

An 8-what?! Just kidding. I've heard of them and know they've basically an older version of the "modern" cassette player -- more or less. Don't believe I've ever seen one in person though.

Don't believe I've ever seen one in person though. in person? ...i never liked them.4 channels some songs entire and some partial. just depends on the length of the song... if the song is too lomg to fit on that channel, it fades out... then you wait for a thump for it to change to the next channel, then it fades back in and finishes. ....everyone was ecstatic when cassetes came out.... now you could listen to uninterupted songs. ;D..... except for doc. .... good luck in finding one doc... i used to use them. trouble was, after awhile, the foam pad under the tape in the cartridge would deteriorate and crumble...this made the songs sound like they were being sung from under a bucket.... like on the gomer pyle show, remember? . from th halls of monterzummer? ;D

Doc, You find a 8-track player yet? I have three or four at my Dad's house if you still need one.
Chris, My first car had a 4-track player in it before 8-tracks were on the market.

4-track... I don't think I've ever heard of those! 8-track, yes. 4... no.... Oh well - if I ever have kids, I'm sure they'll be like "What's a cassette/VCR?"

Not sure about wire recorders... Reel to reel... I think I've seen them on TV - something you might see when they have shows that play 911 phone calls and stuff...

I remember the 4 track now that it was mentioned. It wasn't out very long before 8 came out and was very popular so you didn' hear much about it after that I guess. The Salvation Army may have them as well. We have a huge Sally Anne near us. They sell cars there and tons of stuff. Including alot of NEW merchandise from many stores. surplus, furniture stores that may scratch or a small tear. Sears donates their returns.

Sorry I haven't been back to respond to this thread I started. Rude, huh? Anyway, I found one, in a yard sale, that works great, for $2.00! The reason I wanted it was because my Mom had a ton of 8-tracks, some new, still in the wrapper, and I had no way to check them out. There's some good stuff there, that I may want to burn to a CD, for the car. I put a 4-track in my first car (well, actually, a pick-up!). Better sound quality than the 8-tracks, but tended to get dirty a lot faster, of course. Thanks, everybody!
