I have to keep them trimmed back, they will grow 6 feet tall, but not many tomatoes, everything goes to vines. I didn't plant a conventional garden, I put the tomatoes around Canna Lillies and a Jade plant. It works for me, because I did the 'rows' of everything last year and no one helped and tons of it went to the trash. AND we buy all our water, all the time, because it never rains in California.

Fried green tomatoes is the best way to eat them!! Or else when it is ripe and right off the vine and make a sandwich with Miracle Whip.Nothing like a home grown ripe tomato, sure beats the hard hot house tomatoes you get in the grocery stores!Sometimes I miss having a garden,we have too many critters here that eat it all.

I don't even know how many tomato plants I've lost to gophers.
They eat the roots off the bottom, one had fruit on it as well as many buds, little rotton critters ate the roots.
I have 2 places that my cats hang out alot and the gophers don't get to go there, or if they do they are a cats sandwich, without the miracle whip.
