When we had the heavy frost last month it hit the roses hard, but they're finally coming back. The 'dark' areas on the rose are how it's supposed to be. Almost a black velvet appearance. I prefer cutting them before they completely open so they'll last a bit longer inside.

Those are really pretty Linda. I want to plant some rose bushes, but haven't figured out where yet. We have so many different kinds of bushes in the front yard already. I love the smell of roses. I wanted to plant some climbing ones around the deck but Jim wasn't in favor of having to deal with that many.

These are climbers Nancy ~ and John just ties them up. A bit of a pain at times, but when we have roses for Christmas...it's all worth it. I would like to plant some regular rose 'shrubs'. The pink one (wild) that we planted a couple of years ago is going nuts. It's gotten to be a good size. Have Jim help you figure out where to put them.

Beautiful flowers and pictures!About the only roses I can grow are the wild pink ones and yellow ones. They can get out of hand, I try to keep them clipped back every year but they get ahead of me.They knock me off the lawn mower if I don't.

Linda,
That wild one you speak of if it is what I think it is a called a multi-floral here and those things grow everywhere. If you want it somewhere else just cut a piece off and plant it. I don't think you can kill them. I have changed the color of a couple of ours. By planting a differ colored rose beside it. Now be prepared not to have that rose the next year because the multi-floral will more than likely kill it but it will be a real pretty different color the following year. Tom cut mine this year but it will be back next year. JMHO

Thanks for the info Rose. The pink rose is my 'wild' one. These red ones are hybrids which hubby planted when he bought the house. I'll have to post the picture I took of the roses on Sunday. It's loaded.

Aah that's a beauty, Linda! You posted this in 2007 - is it still going strong?

It is Jippsy. It really needs to be fertilized but we haven't had a chance to get it done yet. I'm sitting here looking at some that I cut about 10 days ago that need to be tossed. They were a bit slow coming on this year.
