Introduction This formula is appropriate for both hummingbird and oriole feeders. Experts believe that it closely approximates the sweetness and consistency of the nectar naturally found in flowers.
Instructions
Steps Step One Mix 1/4 c. sugar and 1 c. water in a cup or jar. Step Two Stir briskly with a spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved. Step Three Pour the mixture into a clean hummingbird or oriole feeder. Step Four Cover any unused nectar and refrigerate for up to five days.
Tips & Warnings Mixing nectar in a measuring cup allows easy pouring into feeders.
Change nectar in feeders every five to seven days - more often in warm weather.
Be sure all utensils are clean and dry before making nectar.
For larger feeders, simply increase water and sugar using a ratio of four parts water to one part sugar.
Artificial dyes, honey and sugar other than white table sugar should not be used in nectar feeders.
Avoid hanging feeders in direct sunlight, which will cause nectar to spoil more quickly.

I boiled the water too Joni, but from what I've read it's not necessary.

I've done that a lot before too and even though it says not too I always add a little red food coloring to it and it doesn't seem to affect it any.

I don't need it yet as I have a big bottle of mix. If I start making it then I might try it.

Hubby and I were just talking about this yesterday when we were sitting outside. I haven't seen one yet Joni, and I do need to get my feeder out with the nectar. It's been nice enough for them to show up, but none so far.

Joni ~ Hubby and I were just sitting on the porch when we seen our first hummer of the season. I just put nectar out for them.
April 8. We couldn't remember when they came in last year. Of course, I didn't have the camera out tonight, but will in the morning.
Have you gotten any pictures yet??

i thought i read somewhere if you have floridated water or city water , you should use distilled water. i buy the distilled water to be on the safe side. don't want to make the little buggers sick!!! lol
